Professor Sumio Iijima has been nominated for the European Inventor Award

Prof. IijimaSumio Iijima, Distinguished Invited Professor, Nagoya University and IAR Academy has nominated for the 10th European Inventor Award (EIA). The EIA is established in 2006 and annually awarded by EPO (European Patent Office) for superior inventions contributed to the technology, society and development of economy. The prize consists of five categolies: industry, research, small and medium-sized enterprise, Non European countries, and lifetime achievement. International selection committee nominates the finalists and decides the winner. Also the “Popular Prize” is awarded by the popular vote among the nominated 15 finalists.

Professor Iijima, together with other two development members, has been nominated for the “Non-European countries” category for his invention of carbon nanotube. The carbon nanotubes offers excellent physical properties that makes existing technologies faster lighter and more powerful. The carbon nanotubes offers completely new possibilities in aerospace technology and biomedicine. EPO president Battistelli said “applications of carbon nanotubes are virtually limitless”.

The popular vote is available both from EPO web site and facebook page until 4th June 2015.
